Motor control, postural alignment, balance and equilibrium skills, gait pattern, muscular strength and endurance, range of motion and flexibility, orthotics and bracing, safety awareness, spatial awareness, coordination skills, developmental milestones such as rolling, sitting up, crawling, and walking, and gross-motor skills such running, jumping, hopping, leaping, negotiating obstacles, stair climbing, bike riding, throwing, catching, and kicking.

• Your child is not meeting the expected developmental milestones during the first year of life, such as rolling, sitting, standing, or walking
• Your child has a strong preference for turning their head to one side or using one side of their body more than the other
• Your child walks up on the balls of his/her feet or walks in an atypical/awkward manner
• Your child has difficulty keeping up with his/her peers during play
• Your child is not able to perform the same gross motor tasks (ie. hopping, jumping, skipping) as his/her peers
• Your child frequently trips and falls when walking
• Your child complains of pain when performing gross motor tasks
• Your child was injured and is not able to perform at his/her prior level of function

It is important to trust your intuition. You know your child best. Your pediatrician only sees your child for a brief moment and does not see the struggles that you may be having or seeing on a daily basis. Don’t discount your instincts. Unfortunately, there isn’t one simple answer to this question. Certain developmental difficulties may fall within typical expectations, or may be slightly on the later end of typical, while other concerns may be atypical. Therefore, it is imperative to have your child evaluated by a physical therapist regarding your specific areas of concern to determine if therapy would be appropriate.

When your child receives therapy at school, it is considered an educationally-based service. This means that services are provided to address only those skills that are necessary for your child to be successful in his/her educational setting. Precision Sports and Pediatric Physical Therapy provides individualized medically-based therapy, which addresses ALL areas impacting your child’s ability to succeed in all environments. It is usually appropriate and recommended for your child to receive both educationally-based and medically-based physical therapy to maximize your child’s level of function.

At Precision Sports, our mission is to make physical therapy fun for your child. Our therapists use a play-based approach for all intervention plans. You can share with your child that he/she is going to play. Examples of what your child will be doing may include going on swings, climbing the rock wall, jumping on the trampoline, walking on the balance beam, playing games, doing puzzles, coloring/drawing, playing catch, or setting up fun obstacle courses. If your child asks why, you can share, as appropriate, that he/she is coming to make his/her muscles stronger and/or move his/her body in a more coordinated manner.

Babies on the Move

Join us for fun, social, and informative group classes that will guide you and your baby through various positions and play-based activities to facilitate success in reaching developmental milestones. We will offer tips and advice on when your child should typically achieve these milestones, and what to do when they encounter difficulties. Meet other caregivers and babies that may become friends for life. We will provide fun ways to incorporate tummy time and developmentally appropriate toys and activities into your little one’s daily routine.
